Sierra College is accepting applications for a seven week introductory construction fundamentals training program developed with the Building Industry Association that includes OSHA certification and paid externships to prepare students for building careers in the Greater Sacramento region.
The goal of this tuition-free intensive construction training program to get people to work in an essential industry. The Introduction to Industry and Occupational Safety for the Building Trades program runs from February 23 to April 21, 2021. It was developed in collaboration with the Building Industry Association and is taught by Sierra College faculty members. Participants will become OSHA certified and develop experience through paid externships with construction companies in Placer, Nevada and Sacramento counties. Previous graduates are working in the building trades.
Those who are interested in the Introduction to Industry and Occupational Safety for the Building Trades (BI 0805) course may attend Sierra College Construction Fundamentals Zoom Information Session on Wednesday, January 27 at 6 PM. Register on Eventbrite.
The program will support community members in finding new careers with excellent wages. In less than three months, participants will gain entry into the building trades and construction industry. There are excellent career opportunities because of the shortage of skilled workers.
The program will be held three days per week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 AM to 5 PM at the Rocklin campus of Sierra College. Through hands-on training, students will develop essential skills in interpreting trade calculations, taking exact measurements, blueprint reading, equipment and material handling, basic building and installation methods and practicing safety construction techniques according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Enrollment is limited to 12 students to allow for social distancing in the classroom.
