February Revenue for Massachusetts Casinos Increases by 14%

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission recently released its report on the state’s casino revenue for February 2021, and the numbers are encouraging. Despite the ongoing pandemic, the three casinos in Massachusetts – Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield, and Plainridge Park Casino – collectively generated $49.83 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) last month, a 14% increase from February 2020.

Encore Boston Harbor, the largest casino in the state, reported $28.5 million in GGR, up 15.4% from the same month last year. MGM Springfield saw a 9.3% increase in GGR, bringing in $19.6 million. Plainridge Park Casino, which only offers slot machines and electronic table games, generated $1.7 million in GGR, a 20.6% increase from February 2020.

The increase in revenue can be attributed to several factors. First, the casinos have implemented strict health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19, which has helped to instill confidence in customers who may have been hesitant to visit the casinos during the pandemic. Second, the casinos have adapted to the changing needs of their customers by offering new amenities and services, such as online gaming and sports betting.

Encore Boston Harbor, for example, launched its online sports betting platform in January 2021, which has been well-received by customers. The casino also recently opened a new outdoor dining area and a luxury hotel tower, which have helped to attract new customers.

MGM Springfield has also adapted to the pandemic by offering online gaming and sports betting, as well as expanding its outdoor dining options. The casino has also partnered with local businesses to offer special promotions and discounts to customers.

Plainridge Park Casino has focused on improving its slot machine offerings and customer service to attract more visitors. The casino has also implemented new safety measures, such as plexiglass barriers and enhanced cleaning protocols.

Overall, the increase in revenue for Massachusetts casinos is a positive sign for the state’s gaming industry. While the pandemic has presented significant challenges for the industry, the casinos have shown resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity. As more people become vaccinated and restrictions are lifted, it is likely that the casinos will continue to see growth in revenue and customers.
