Union Workers at Foxwoods Casino Approve a New Contract Agreement

After months of negotiations, union workers at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut have approved a new contract agreement. The agreement was reached between the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which owns and operates the casino, and the United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2121, which represents approximately 2,000 workers at the casino.

The new contract includes wage increases, improved benefits, and job security provisions for workers. It also includes language that protects workers from discrimination and harassment, and establishes a process for resolving disputes between workers and management.

The agreement comes after months of negotiations between the union and the casino. In August, union members voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike if a new contract could not be reached. However, negotiations continued, and a tentative agreement was reached in October.

The new contract was ratified by union members in a vote held on November 15th. The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of the new agreement, with 1,642 members voting in favor and only 80 voting against.

The new contract is seen as a victory for union workers at Foxwoods, who have been fighting for better wages and working conditions for years. Many workers at the casino have complained about low wages, long hours, and poor working conditions.

In a statement, UAW Local 2121 President John DelMonte praised the new contract, saying that it “provides significant improvements in wages, benefits, and job security for our members.” He also thanked the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation for “working with us to reach a fair and equitable agreement.”

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation also released a statement, saying that it was “pleased to have reached an agreement with UAW Local 2121 that provides fair wages and benefits to our valued employees.” The statement also noted that the new contract “reflects our commitment to providing a safe and respectful workplace for all of our employees.”

The new contract is expected to go into effect immediately. Union workers at Foxwoods can now look forward to improved wages, better benefits, and greater job security. The agreement is a testament to the power of collective bargaining and the importance of unions in protecting workers’ rights.
