04/27/07 Construction Bootcamp and Job Fair July 9-20, 2007

Sierra College provides two week training & job fair for 18-22 year olds July 9-20

ROCKLIN – Young adults looking for a way to get into the construction industry can sign up now for the two-week Construction Boot Camp and Job Fair being offered July 9 to 20. The Sierra College Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT) (sierracollegetraining.com) is offering the program to prepare graduates for positions with local contractors and builders. The Boot Camp is sponsored by the Golden Sierra Job Training Agency (goldensierra.com), Placer County Contractors Association (placerbx.com) and 49er Regional Occupational Program (49errop.com).

Program participants will be ready for entry level positions in the construction industry as a result of earning the following certifications:

  • CPR/First-Aid
  • OSHA Safety Overview
  • Forklift Safety Training
  • Flagger Training

The intensive 10 day training includes hands-on instruction with tools, materials, basic construction math, blueprint reading and job-seeking skills.

Both women and men are encouraged to enroll. According to Karla Turner, President, Sacramento Chapter #63, National Association of Women in Construction (NAWICsacramento.org), there are more opportunities than ever before for women interested in construction careers. “The construction industry pays high wages and offers a wide range of careers,” said Turner. “Whether swinging a hammer, repairing a roof or working on a road crew, women can and do make up a growing part of the construction workforce in our region.”

Applicants must be age 18 to 22 and drug free with a high school diploma or GED, and valid California drivers license. The fee to participate is $80. Applications are available at sierracollegetraining.com or call Carol Pepper-Kittredge at 916-781-6288.
