The fee is $50. Learn more at www.sierracollegetraining.com. The presenter is Jes Vargas, with DPMG Corp. and a CACT Trainer. This is one of several Lean workshops designed to help companies become more competitive; Value Stream Mapping will be offered April 5-6.
Business Process Mapping was used by a local company that wanted to improve month end close. Instead of focusing on the people who performed the specific tasks, employees mapped out the entire accounting process, including payroll, benefits, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. They documented what feeds into accounting from other departments and how the resulting monthly information was used. One result of seeing the pictorial depiction of the process was that they realized how time consuming it was to handle customer payments made by check. Employees sort, alphabetize, scan, print, file and then shred the checks. When payment is received electronically, these steps are eliminated. By giving customers a discount for paying electronically, employees’ time was saved and it was beneficial in cost and time savings to the customer. Business Process Mapping helps staff see their work from a new perspective and inspires them to explore how it can be done more efficiently.
In this interactive workshop with simulations and industry examples, participants will:
- Discuss the benefits of defining business processes
- Identify the steps for examining office functions as processes across departments
- Become familiar with different types of Process Maps
- Perform a gap analysis to identify areas for improvement
